The Folksworth Golf Society was formed for residents and friends of the village of Folksworth to play golf regularly, raise some money for local charities and have some fun. |
Folksworth is a small village about 5 miles south west of Peterborough close to junction 16 of the A1 (M). In June 1999 a handful of locals whilst drinking in The Fox Inn public house, decided to have a go at playing golf, and duly organized a Sunday morning game at the nearby Stilton Oaks golf course, which is only about a mile away. Word got round and a total of 12 locals, mostly beginners, gave their best and hacked their way round before retiring to the Fox Inn for a drink, food supplied by the landlord, free I might add, and to talk about all the 'if only's on the course. |
The Society now has about 40 members of all standards of golf, we meet regularly on the first Sunday of the month at local golf courses. Anybody can join the Society no matter what standard they play, anyone can play as a guest on any competition day. The only thing we want from any person participating is that they enjoy the golf and can have a laugh about it afterwards. |
The Society is now in its 25th year and continues to organise competitions for almost every month of the year. |
By the way, everybody's golf is improving. |
